Research by Carol Dweck at Stanford University shows that brains react differently to challenges depending on our beliefs.

She coined the terms fixed versus growth mindset. A brain scan of a person with a fixed mindset during a challenge shows no activated areas within the brain. People with a fixed mindset believe that success is based on talent and that their intelligence is like a hand of cards they’ve been dealt. On the other hand, a brain scan of a person with a growth mindset during a challenge shows a large area of the brain is active.
