For Successful Subsea Projects

Practical expertise in subsea project engineering is crucial for successful project delivery

Every subsea project has its unique challenges. The need for practical expertise in subsea project engineering is crucial for successful project delivery. Building a cohesive project engineering team across multiple disciplines and SMEs to deliver complex projects effectively is critical.

The immense pressure to cut costs and lower overheads has forced organisations to be lean to stay competitive. Most engineering companies are running skeleton teams until they win a project, then building a high performing team with the right experience fast becomes a difficult task.

The good news is:

  • 98% of surveyed clients say that we have the project engineers with the right expertise and relationships within the subsea industry to deliver successful projects.
  • 95% of surveyed clients say we reliably deliver results in a short time.
  • 96% of surveyed clients find us so easy-to-work-with that they highly recommend Approach Services.

Our approach to project engineering focuses on smooth collaboration. Our team has the right mix of technical and people skills.

We use industry best practices to deliver high-quality outcomes with exceptional standards for health, safety and the environment.

We have two success measures:

  • Provide practical solutions that are offshore-friendly; and
  • Deliver projects within time and budget

The team has experience and accreditations in a wide range of contemporary Project Management Methodologies such as Design Thinking, PMBoK and Agile PM.

Sapura Energy

Flowline Connector Replacement | North West Shelf | PTTEP

Sapura Energy had to develop a practical solution and procedures within 4 weeks to replace a leaking flowline connector on a subsea tree at a wellhead costing millions of dollars in lost production.

Our project engineers came up with a simple 4 -step plan to visit the site, conceptualise, trial and finalise the design and procedure. The site visit with an identical subsea tree enabled the stakeholders and us to inspect, measure and visualise possible solutions and operability by divers in the subsea environment. We then created methodologies for each and carried out a constructability workshop with all the stakeholders to select the best possible solution. The ideal solution, tools and installation aids were produced and fabricated for a trial to gain further insights and feedback. Our team then streamlined the final design and developed a working procedure that was practical and easy to understand. This design thinking and tight collaboration resulted in smooth execution. The flowline connecter was replaced by the offshore team in time and budget and without any negative surprises.

“This is the first time that a flowline connector has ever been replaced on a subsea tree at a wellhead – Well done!”

FPSO Keel Repair | Brazil

Neptune Marine Services contacted us to facilitate the FSPO Keel Repair in Brazil. The collaboration with the local diving subcontractor required high levels of interpersonal skills, cultural awareness and leadership skills alongside sound technical experience in diving and underwater welding.

Our project engineering team proposed a three-way recipe for success: Building rapport, improving collaboration and raising accountability.

On behalf of our client, we seconded our senior project engineer into the subcontractor's office in Brazil. We focussed on establishing trust with the engineers and the management team through ready support and common goals. We then increased collaboration by establishing a daily stand up meeting with stakeholders to share progress and highlight roadblocks.

Besides driving technical outcomes, our lead engineer pushed for higher accountability. We essentially created a team culture that valued asking for help and helping others to achieve more as a team. As a result, our client trained 12 divers in underwater welding and executed the offshore campaign as planned.

Our project engineering team is not only technically skilled but also possesses interpersonal skills that make planning and execution of projects smooth and agile.
